Weekly Update (Week 11)

Good morning!  The school is very quiet as I write this weekly update.  Everyone is pretty tired, a little relieved and fully satisfied by their performance last night at Expo.  We can all give a big sigh of contentment as we move on to bigger and better things.

Math: This week we continued our unit on Fractions.  We spent the whole week comparing fractions.  We used visual models, number lines, and common denominators to determine order of fractions.  Many students are already feeling very comfortable with this.  We will continue to work on this in the next few weeks.

Reading: We continued reading Tiger Rising.  This week we focused on digging deep into our main characters, Rob and Sistine.  We used our guided reading time this week to fully prepare for Expo so we will get back to guided reading after the break.  Everyone will begin to read a novel that is at their just right reading level.  I am also benchmarking all students to make sure they are at their just right level.

Writing: We wrote opinion pieces on a concussion related topic.  The students had very strong opinions about these things.  I hope you got a chance to check them out at Expo.
PBL: Expo prep, expo prep, expo prep.  This is what happened all over the school this week.  Those fantastic presentations you saw last night had to come from somewhere.  :)

Forms to Return: On Tuesday, report cards will come home.  Please sign and date the folder AND the PLP that is inside.  Return the signed copy of the PLP and the folder.  Also, Thanksgiving Break packet will come home at that same time. It is up to your family if he/she chooses to participate.

Upcoming:  Thanksgiving Recorder performance will be Tueday at 9 am and 2 pm.  It will take place in the Multipurpose Room if you are free to join us for one of the performances.

Morning Meeting:  This week we spent a lot of time covering feelings about the election still and expo conversations.

Please enjoy the rest of this beautiful weekend!

My Very Best,
Mrs. B
